Paul is a local, Paul will be lecturing at the Wayside Quilters Guild meeting on October 17th at 7:30, at the Goodnow Library in Sudbury. Members, guests and non-members are invited free of charge to participate in this presentation. Paul will be discussing his techniques used to create his fabrics. Paul works with both paints and dyes on 100% cotton fabrics. Paints
and dyes give different results, and are each used to create unique fabrics. Setacolor paints create the sunprinted
fabrics. Jacquard paints come in various colors which create many spectacular
fabrics. Paul uses MX reactive dyes for dyeing and painting fabric as well.
Dyed fabrics have a different feel and a different look than do painted
fabrics. Hand-dyed fabrics don’t have to look like commercial fabrics. Many
people think dyeing fabrics requires a lot of space and creates a big mess.
Paul will talk about how he dyes his fabrics using plastic cups in his
laundry room sink. Paul creates some of his painted fabrics inside an old
cardboard box lined with a plastic trash bag. The techniques Paul uses, and
the results he gets, can
easily be achieved in your home. You don’t need a lot of space to create
wonderful fabrics. Paul will teach tips and techniques for home dying fabrics, how to do, how to minimize the mess, and how to get the results you are after without having to pay someone else a fortune to dye it for you. Paul's lecture will include a trunk show of some of the items he has created using his fabrics and discuss the inspirations for the quilts and fabrics used. If you have questions about creating fabrics that you would like Paul to speak to during his lecture, feel free to contact Paul ahead of time. After
the lecture Paul will have a selection of his fabrics available for sale. You
